Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51M Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The exciting 11-inning matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a total 51 million watchers in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this marks the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement over the last finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language program in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game World Series averaged 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total American average was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M viewers, an 8% rise compared to the previous year and the network’s best playoff performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen various languages.
